Yesterday was inauguration day for NovaCity !
Rewarded with the Be.Exemplary award in 2019, this project transforms the last 'intra-Ring' wasteland in Brussels into a truly exemplary neighborhood.
Using metal sheets and concrete, NovaCity faithfully translates the industrial heritage of the neighborhood to create a specific and recognizable identity. The green corrugated metal sheets, from the top to the 1st floor, contribute in creating a landmark out of its buildings. On the ground floor, the metal is extended with corrugated concrete, reflecting the need for a more solid and durable material for the SMEs. A distinction that helps differentiate a public and productive level on the ground floor from private and residential ones above, all while maintaining a sense of unity across the whole site.
With the emphasis placed on exchanges and interactions, the multiple functions overlap and offer a highly diverse and mixed environment. Workshops, office/retail space and housing units are implanted around collective spaces in order to create a truly convivial living experience within a highly urban environment.
