Novacity at Seoul Biennale 2019
Our mixed project Novacity, winning competition project developed in collaboration with Bogdan & Van Broeck and Atelier Eole, is exhibited in the Brussels Pavillon at the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism taking place in the South Corean capital from 9 September to 10 November. Together with four other projects situated in the Brussels canal zone, Novacity was selected for its interesting constellation of housing and productive activities. The Brussels pavilion, an initiative of the Brussels Bouwmeester, wants to highlight the need to research and develop new urban typologies that make production activities compatible with housing and connect them with the public space in our cities. This debate about the location of productive spaces in urban centers inscribes itself into the global theme of this year's edition of the Biennale: 'Collective City'.
Since 2017 already, the Seoul biennale has been an international event that connects global cities' contemporary and future aspects. Fundamental questions regarding cities are faced: How does one understand cities? What are the required philosophies and approaches for cities? What are the essentiel things to remember during the process of developing cities?
