Unconventional worksite size of Royale Belge ; mixing heritage conservation and interior reconversion.
Building registered on the list of safeguarding of the immovable heritage of the Brussels Capital Region for the totality of the main building and as a site for a part of its park, the Royale Belge is today the object of a building site with extraordinary dimensions, articulated around two principal interventions.
Exterior renovation. The emblematic cruciform tower, its exoskeleton in corten steel and its coppered glazing are the markers of this "architectural work". This is why the Brussels authorities, the owner Souverain 25 and the group of architects wanted to enhance the heritage value of the building by carrying out an identical exterior renovation.
Interior conversion. The planned modifications mainly accompany the evolutions at the level of the assignments, in order to make them functional (improvement of the circulations, clear redefinition of the spaces, ...). The former office building will be used for a swimming pool and hotel rooms.
A series of images taken by Benjamin Wells (Caruso St John) testifies to the evolution of the construction site, and its extraordinary scale.
