Topic of the week: from sketch to as-built, the story behind every detail
Embedded in our culture, knowledge sharing is an integral part of our processes. As we gather our team weekly to look into a specific topic, during last week's internal seminar we decided to dive into architectural details from previous projects. A way to share internally the challenges behind every detail, this seminar gave us the opportunity to look back at our initial intentions and evaluate the deployed solutions retrospectively.
Every detail we design and execute is motivated by a series of contextual elements. The choice of the railing for a balcony can depend on the building's location. If a housing unit is located in a highly urban street for example, the railing choice could enhance the level of intimacy and privacy, and consequently, the well-being of the apartments’ inhabitants. Same goes for the treatment of terraces in collective housing projects where openwork metal sheets can help isolate and disconnect spaces visually through a game of patterns and density.
Context-driven not ego-driven being our motto, we believe in an architecture that provides context-specific answers. As we aspire to improve each and every individuals’ experience within the built environment, we continue to challenge ourselves and build on our collective knowledge to be able to go further, together.
